Jijona is a small city located within the province of Alicante , just 24 kilometers from the capital. World famous for being the birthplace of nougat , appreciated and  traditional Christmas sweet, is a small and cozy , more a village than a city. It's where I was born.

Jijona has a long and remarkable history . Being a small town , the city holds the titles of " loyal and most faithful city " , awarded in 1708 by Philip V in honor of the strong resistance of its inhabitants during the war of succession , joining the great honor of carrying the Lys Flower in  its coat of arms. That explains its city status , with a population of less than 8000 inhabitants. There are still remnants of the Moorish occupation in the ruins of the old castle and the medieval population grew at the foot of the Peña Roja Mountain , with its narrow streets and ancient houses variegated arcades. I still remember with emotion the walks through the old town , a place that still has the special flavor of yesteryear.

Also, being located in a mountainous area , it’s an amount of natural environments such as Alecua , La Font Roja , the Salt , so it has a very cozy rural environment . Also, on the other hand , there is only 24 kilometers far from some of the best beaches in Alicante , like Campello, San Juan , Muchavista , etc. After so many years spent in jijona , I can definitely say that is a good place to live .
